EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY

My experiences have taught me that students come across with differing sets of communication skills, intrinsic strengths, and personal backgrounds. These must first be identified and then leveraged against any weaknesses they may have.

I believe in the incorporation of a variety of supplementary media across genres, and believe that it is vital to the successful execution of any lesson plan and curriculum, not only to keep material accessible and relevant, but also to expose students to the various digital platforms they may be working in upon entry into college and the job market.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

I earned my B.A. in English-Literature from Western New England University, in Springfield MA, with a special focus in lit theory and criticism of early and contemporary American and British modernism. I later earned my M.F.A in creative writing from Temple University, in Philadelphia, PA, focusing on both long and short fiction.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I worked for some time with Western New England University writing center as a writing tutor, assisting peers and underclassmen alike across a variety of majors with numerous academic and creative assignments.

While a student in Temple University’s M.F.A. program, I had the opportunity to complete the practicum for teachers of writing, surrounded by talented young teachers, each with diverse pedagogical methods. The course awarded me the chance to watch several of them in action, each with their own effective versions of classroom management, syllabus interpretation and lesson improvisation.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

I am a member of an online writing community on “Lit Reactor”. I am also a contributing member for a variety of professional writing and educating discussion groups and communities (Linked & Writers; The craft of Writing Fiction, etc..)
