I believe that every student has the potential to learn, and, in my specialty, learn to write well. I strive to engage students in a deep learning process, where each can take the material and make it his or her own, thereby establishing a personal connection to the material and increased motivation for writing. I have committed my teaching career to creating “traditional” classroom environments in virtual spaces with learning quality that supersedes traditional learning methods.

I hold a PhD in Composition Studies from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where I studied the positive effects of personal writing on working mothers and, by association, their children. I hold a Master’s degree in Professional Writing from Carnegie Mellon University, where I focused on business writing. I began my education with a Bachelor’s degree in English (with a minor in writing) at Chatham University, focusing on the writing of William Faulkner.

I have been teaching online courses for almost 10 years and have taught almost 1,000 students. I have taught writing in virtual classrooms for Chatham University, DeVry University, and ITT Technical Institute, as well as created online supplemental learning for classroom classes at Butler County Community College. I have also tutored more than 500 students as a writing tutor/ e-structor.

I teach writing classes and workshops for children at the local public library. I also participate in career-building activities for students at the local elementary school. In addition, I have participated in domestic animal adoption programs and am studying to be a certified weather spotter.
