A shape is said to be symmetric if it is exactly like another if flipped, slid or turned.

The line of symmetry divides the shape into symmetry. In two-dimensional shapes there is a line of symmetry, in three-dimensional figures a plane of symmetry. The line and plane of symmetry can be in any direction. A shape can have more than one line or plane of symmetry.

The simplest type of symmetry is reflection symmetry which is also known as reflectional symmetry, line symmetry, mirror symmetry, mirror-image symmetry, or bilateral symmetry. The figure which does not change upon undergoing a reflection has reflectional symmetry.
