Arnold District and Curriculum

Arnold students in the Fox C-6 School District are exposed to a curriculum developed from the Common Core State Standards. These standards ensure that all students are challenged to use higher level thinking strategies when learning. The standards are assessed through statewide tests in core subjects which help show that a student is achieving the learning expectations. Educators and administrators are also able to use the assessment data to understand strengths and weaknesses for individual students, and whole classes and grade levels.

We currently cover the following Arnold-area school district: Fox C-6 School District.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Arnold District Curriculum

Some of the broad-based goals of the curriculum are for students to read more difficult texts, use evidence and facts to support their arguments in writing, and use various strategies to build vocabulary knowledge. No longer will students just solve math problems, but they will explain how they got their answers, discuss possible mistakes that could be made, and identify different ways to solve a problem. For instance, students learn the concept of negative integers and add, subtract, multiply and divide, and all other ratios. They apply their understanding of adding rational numbers to solving linear equations.

Students will also use higher level thinking to think like scientists when investigating, experimenting, and solving problems. They are expected to develop content and process knowledge, scientific reasoning, and scientific literacy that allows them to read and write scientific texts. Students are also expected to understand the interplay of technology and scientific change and how individuals and society adapts to such changes.

Chalk Talk: What Does a Tutor Need to Know About My Child?

Congratulations on making the decision to utilize a tutor! Tutors offer one-on-one attention for your child that a teacher can’t always give. A tutor’s main responsibility is to determine what your child needs to be successful with grade level content and skills, and to deliver it in a personalized format. Sharing information about your child with the tutor gives your child the best opportunity for success. Tell the tutor about anything that frustrates your child when it comes to learning. You know the little things you worry about, and your friends and family say, “It’s probably nothing,” and “I’m sure he will grow out of it”? Tell your tutor those concerns. It is equally important to share information about what your child really likes. Does your little guy love horses and tractors? Your tutor should know about it!
