Ashland District and Curriculum

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Ashland District Curriculum

In English Language Arts, students are exposed to the disciplines of reading, writing, speaking, listening, inquiring, observing and using technology to communicate. Writing is an essential part of the English curriculum and students are writing in a variety of formats and teachers are assessing their work regularly. Students read a variety of text including fiction and non-fiction and reading skills are viewed as essential in all subject-area learning.

In the Mathematics curriculum, students learn about numbers in primary school. Students use manipulatives and are introduced to basic problem-solving techniques. When basic concepts and math skills are introduced, application of these skills becomes important as it is through this that students are able to expand on higher-order reasoning skills. They will become able to use quantitative data to draw conclusions and abstract additional information.

Be prepared, stand up tall, say what you have to say, and enjoy doing it.
