Azle District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs

The Azle Independent School District follows the state-adopted frameworks for each content area that provide high quality objectives and a clear progression of learning from elementary through high school. Student assessments are given in core subjects so that teachers can understand the strengths and weaknesses of the students in their class. As a result, each student’s strengths are enhanced, while his or her areas of weakness are addressed as well. As students move on to middle and high school, there are also additional electives and extracurricular groups that may help students connect with their career or college goals, or to pursue their talent in arts or athletics.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Azle District Curriculum

Azle Independent School District includes the subjects of biology and chemistry in the science curriculum. Both of these begin the students' education by studying living systems and elements from the larger aspects to the smallest parts of each. Included in biology is the study of DNA, Darwin's Theory, Evolution of populations and bacteria. Then chemistry includes studying counting calories, calculating energy and solubility. Each of these show students to look beyond the surface of things to find more things of interest underneath.

The Math curriculum covers numerical operations, algebra, geometry, and data analysis. Basic geometry is a central aspect of the curriculum, with kids learning the names of shapes and gaining the ability to describe shapes with accuracy. Geometry students likewise learn about equations and the role they play in geometry, specifically with regard to proving theorems algebraically. Linear functions are also a topic of discussion and students in advanced math courses find the skills they develop in each type of math is used.

Chalk Talk: Goals of the Family and Consumer Science Curriculum

The family and consumer sciences curriculum allows for an exploration of how we live in our communities as individuals, families, and societies. At the elementary level, students learn to integrate their various roles, including that of student, son or daughter, brother or sister, and community member. Learners work to identify the various needs of the family, including basic necessities such as food, water, and shelter. To get a better understanding of their personal skills, students take part in a variety of tasks that shed light on their individual aptitudes. Children engage in activities that promote the development of strong moral values and ethical behavior as well. Learners also participate in group activities in order to gain valuable communication skills.
