Chalk Talk: Fostering a Sense of Involvement

Do you wish that your child seemed to care about more things at school? Maybe your child just doesn’t have any motivation to do things? Perhaps one way that you can help is to get your child involved in a co-curricular or extracurricular activity. Getting your child involved can not only perk up his or her self-esteem, but it may be the social link that he or she has been looking for. Students who are involved in activities have a much higher success rate for academics, achievement, and social acceptance. Talk to your child to see what he or she is interested in. Would 4-H be a good idea? What about sports? Or a reading club? Whether your child gets involved in something that is similar to his or her passion, or he or she finds a new one, encourage your child to think outside the box and explore some opportunities.
