Bethany District and Curriculum
Bethany Community School operates one elementary school to more than 400 students in the town of Bethany, CT. The Amity Regional District #5 services the secondary school students in Bethany including two middle schools, and one high school. Amity Regional District #5 services Bethany, Orange, and Woodbridge. The district uses the Readers/Writers Workshop Model, which is utilized by Columbia Teachers College. A variety of technology is offered in educational programs. Mobile carts of iPads and laptops are used in the classrooms as well as SMART board technology.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Bethany District Curriculum
Bethany Public Schools offers a comprehensive program of studies for students in grades PreK-6th grade. Students participate in curriculum in reading, math, language arts, social studies, science, art, health, music, physical education, technology, and Spanish. Students also can participate in after-school extracurricular activities including leadership, sports, band, drama, and robotics.
The curriculum is aligned with the Common Core State Standards and the new math program is called Math Expressions. The Smarter Balanced Assessment provides the district assessment for its students and aligns with the Common Core State Standards. With programs that support students of all abilities, extracurricular activities that provide a well-rounded educational experience, and programs that promote respect and understanding, the district provide all the relevant experiences students need to achieve their potential.

- Holiday Season Fundraisers - Need a Christmas gift? The 6th grade class is selling Yankee Candles as a fundraiser. All items purchased will be in by mid-December just in time for the holidays and the proceeds will benefit activities at the school.

Here are a few cool apps especially for third grade students to help their educational studies. Slice Fractions helps unravel to mystery of fractions by solving puzzles in a problem-solving game to help a cute wooly mammoth. Tools 4 Students is great for your visual learners by providing 25 graphic organizers to help prepare their thinking while reading or getting prepared to write. Write About This is another great tool for visual learners that offer 125 images and even more text/voice prompts to kick-start writing activities. Young learners do well by playing games in math and language arts that help them master skills and introduce them to content; a strong foundation is established through the repetition. Students are sure to enjoy their creative and fun activities.
