Bethel District and Curriculum
Bethel Public Schools have initiated a new set of goals to improve student success at all levels. They are working to increase the number of students enrolled in college level courses, many of which earn them credits at The University of Connecticut and West Connecticut University. They are striving to create lesson that are enriching and engaging for students and motivates them to not only enjoy school, but excel as well.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Bethel District Curriculum
All Bethel schools follow the Common Core Standards of curriculum. Within these standards, students are better prepared for both college, as well as the workforce. In English, there is strong focus on reading, writing and speaking comprehension and literacy. Reading a diverse range of texts is used as a base for growth in this subject; students read non-fiction and use media as texts along with independent reading choices. With writing and discussion intertwined with reading, students are able to learn how to talk about and express their ideas.
In Mathematics, fewer topics are covered each year so that students have the opportunity to understand more deeply the content that they are learning. The same philosophy applies in all other content areas like Science and Social Studies. With the increase of technology in the world, so too in the classroom has technology expanded in use. Topics such as how technology changes and shapes society bring together all these areas in a relevant area of study.

Keeping Informed: Recent Bethel Educational News
- Engineer Works with STEM Team - Students participating in the Bethel High School’s STEM team were joined by an engineer from a local engineering firm. The students were tasked with re-designing the engine mount for an aircraft using real world design techniques and giving the students insight into the technological industry.
- Digital Arts and Sciences Award - Students participating in the Digital Arts and Sciences program got a chance to work with real film school directors and learn about the process of film/documentary production. Also, they competed to create the best animated logo and won!
- Family School Partnership Committee - Faculty and parents representing every school in the district join together in a partnership committee. Their goal is to foster family involvement within the schools and create a cohesive environment of support for both students and their parents.

They should encourage their existing teachers to hone their skills and learn new and better teaching practices. This not only saves districts money but increases student success.
