Chalk Talk: Benefits of STEM

STEM, or Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math programs, have become ever more popular in public schools in recent years. The development of STEM programs has led to many unique opportunities for cross-curricular learning. Such programs help students learn the content in context of its application. These programs have developed, in part, as a reaction to the needs of the modern workforce, which relies heavily on STEM-related skills. In fact, jobs in STEM fields have grown at a rate three times faster than other jobs over the last decade. In addition to helping students acquire necessary skills for success in today’s job market, STEM courses also get students up and active in the learning process. Experiential activities help reinforce classroom learning, ensuring that students retain more information and better understand the concepts they are studying.
