Bradford District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs

The Simcoe County District School Board follows the objectives-based Ontario Curriculum to provide an education to its students. The courses are student-centered and involve a great deal of discussion and group activities. Students should be able to clearly express their ideas and comprehend perspectives that differ from their own. So that students are receiving the most effective education possible, district teachers participate in professional development on a regular basis to ensure they are at the forefront of educational practices. The curriculum is also continually revised to reflect changing expectations that students will face when they graduate.

We currently cover the following Bradford-area school districts: Simcoe County District School Board and Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board.

Chalk Talk: Parent Teacher Conferences

It is important that parents attend parent teacher conferences so that a partnership can be formed between the parents and the teacher. Both parents and teachers will want to make a good impression but also focus on the strengths and weaknesses exhibited by the student. Teachers should make the classroom welcoming for parents by, for example, adorning the walls of the classroom with students’ best work and making sure it is neat. The teacher should review the progress for the child in each subject and emphasize an areas that need more work. The parent should be prepared to ask questions and leave feeling confident they know what they can do at home to support their child's learning. Also, with young children who may also attend the parent teacher conference, this is a great opportunity for them to show your around the classroom and focus on what is important in their classroom experience to them.
