Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Brewton District Curriculum

The Alabama State Standards guide the instructional process as students learn in Math, Science, History and English from kindergarten to graduation. The Standards emphasize key areas of learning – such as algebra in Math, or chemistry in Science, and details the skill and knowledge progression that students will take on over their school years. The goal for literacy instruction is to provide students with the reading strategies necessary to find meaning in texts of all genres.

Fine Arts classes are offered in every grade level, which is something Brewton City Schools takes pride in. The areas of music, art, chorus, and band, are staffed with full-time instructors. Many of the students take these courses, and research shows that students who are enrolled in extra-curricular activities during the school day perform better and are more alert in other classes. Every student has the opportunity to take band, fine arts, and other music classes.

Some schools, however, have fought to keep this important position open for the sake of the learning development of the students. School systems that have the opportunities for fine arts give the students an outlet for learning and another way to shine!
