Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Carney District Curriculum

The Carney world languages curriculum was designed to help students develop skills they will need to be effective communicators in our increasingly globalized society. Students begin by learning basic words and phrases to build a strong foundation of language skills. From there, learners develop the ability to ask and answer questions, and otherwise engage with other speakers and listeners in a one-on-one format. Students also acquire skills that allow them to present information to small and large groups alike.

Carney art students can participate in dance, music, theatre, or visual arts. For students in middle school, visual arts courses include the study of the manner in which visual art is produced. Students learn aesthetic features, such as color theory, and also explore various mediums, including paints, charcoal, and clay. Learners explore the meaning of art, and examine the ways in which artists provide meaning to their work.

Chalk Talk: Three Ways to Reduce Cost of Tuition

With the cost of a college education continuing to rise, many families are seeking ways to reduce the cost of tuition. Fortunately there are a number of approaches students can take to minimize their college tuition expenses. First, students can take AP courses or dual credit courses, for which they can earn college credit. Many schools provide these courses for little or no fee, so students can earn credit without spending a dime. Second, community college is an excellent choice for students that need to reduce their costs. Many community colleges offer excellent courses for a greatly reduced tuition rate than universities. Lastly, be sure to apply for any and all financial aid, even if you don’t think you will qualify. Casting a wide net will ensure that you at least get consideration for as much financial aid as possible.
