Chambersburg District and Curriculum

Chambersburg Area School District has done everything they can to incorporate Pennsylvania Department of Education guidelines and Common Core Standards into their curriculum. Since the Department gives goals, but not the specific paths schools must take to reach them, this has required incorporating steps into the current curriculum and slowly incorporating everything that needs added.

We currently cover the following Chambersburg-area school district: Chambersburg Area School District.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Chambersburg District Curriculum

Chambersburg Area School District offers programs including English as a Second Language for students who are in need of it. They also provide services to students who need extra support through special education programs. They offer AP classes, alternative education, and many other programs designed to help every student succeed no matter what individual needs they may have.

For students who need it, alternative programs include the Franklin Virtual Academy, where students may attend school online or blend a combination of in school and online courses specific to a student’s needs. The Transition Assistance Program is designed to help students who need assistance with behaviors and disruptions. Providing temporary, small classroom settings where teachers can provide the ordinarily provided curriculum along with interventions and teaching social skills needed, these arrangements are designed to help students be able to re-enter a normal learning environment. This is a step taken also for students who might be asked to go to an offsite learning method such as the online academy.

Chalk Talk: How to Use Mnemonics For Studying

Mnemonic devices come in many forms, but they allow you to use information you already know to remember information that is new. One example of a mnemonic device is using a familiar song to learn things like lists of names. An example of this is The Elements song by Tom Lehrer or the ABC’s. Another mnemonic device is using names to remember the first letter of each word you need to remember. One of the most famous examples of this is Roy G. Biv which stands for the colors of the rainbow in order (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet). Another common mnemonic is using a catchy sentence where the first letters signify the words you need to remember. One I used in high school to remember how to convert between metric units was, “King Henry Danced While Drinking Chocolate Milk” (kilo or thousands, hector or hundreds, deca or tens, whatever for the base unit, deci for tenth, centi for hundredth, milli for thousandth). There are many more, but these serve as examples on how to get started.
