Chester District and Curriculum

One of the unique features of the Chester-Upland School District is the specialized nature of the public schools. While all schools offer curriculum in Literacy, Math, Science, and Social Studies that closely support the goals of the Pennsylvania State Core Standards, one preK-5 elementary school and three high schools offer targeted programs.

We currently cover the following Chester-area school district: Chester-Upland School District.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Chester District Curriculum

Math, Literacy/Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies are combined in arts-focused programs at the elementary level at the Chester-Upland School of the Arts. Children may paint pictures and write songs about math operations, or learn much about the culture and history of a time or part of the world through their art, music, dance, and drama. This program uses the core curriculum but also infuses additional learning opportunities into mastering the basics.

Some students may choose to attend one of two specialized high schools: a school that emphasizes preparation for careers in health sciences, or a high school that stresses math and science, as well as more traditional academic and vocational programs. For example, students learn how to read critically and follow arguments at the high school level while being exposed to a wide range of health careers. They might learn how to make observations of patients and write detailed chart notes by picking out the main ideas from sample charts.

Chalk Talk: What Is Success?

Not every student can win a sports contract or be recognized for student leadership, but every child can be a success in their own way. Every child who wins sports awards, countywide honors, or is celebrated for their contributions to their community gets there by hard work and dedication. Those stars can point to the goals they set at an early age, and the way they work to meet them.
