Chalk Talk: The Importance of Proof-Reading

The single most important step in the writing process that a student should take to ensure a better grade on a writing assignment is proofreading. Spell and grammar check are not enough, but they are helpful, and can eliminate certain mistakes before a student sets about to proofread their work. When proofreading, students should essentially read the work aloud to themselves, look for words that have different spellings for different meanings (their, there), and make sure each sentence makes sense. You should also make sure that all of your words and sentences are necessary to include. Is there a more concise way for you to express an idea? Or maybe some of your words are redundant and can be taken out.
