Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Cookeville District Curriculum

The Science curriculum at Cookeville Schools includes the study of biology. This includes the study of plant and animal life. When studying this subject the educators make available whatever technological assistance. The classes include the combination of online classes and the traditions student/teacher class. When the students enter high school they also find a variety of classroom animals to help with classification and observation of different types of animals and their adaptations. The students come away from this class with an additional appreciation of all life no matter how small or different from their own.

The English curriculum at Cookeville Schools helps students develop skills in speaking, writing, reading and listening. Each of these are taught together. The students learn to not only read words, but to find information while reading. They then learn how to use this information to create reports that they then orally present to the class as they listen to the speaker. Chalk Talk: Test Anxiety

Test anxiety can affect a child’s thinking and behavior. The child can be filled with negative thoughts, have doubts in their abilities and intellect. Parents can help their child through this feeling in several ways including encouraging them to attend school regularly. When the child comes home, they need to come to a place that allows them to get a good rest before tests and they need to have a healthy diet and find ways to exercise. In addition, to help build confidence, parents can help the child see their progress over time. This helps alleviate some of the anxiety from each individual test. Parents can also keep the lines of communication open with the teachers to see if there are other ways to assist the child. Most of all, parents need to talk with the child to allow them to work out their concerns and to give them encouragement and love.
