Countryside District and Curriculum

Both the elementary and secondary school districts adhere to the Illinois Learning Standards as the basis of instruction. The ILS covers all core subjects and provide educators with grade-level targets for the skills and knowledge that students should learn. It explains what students should be able to demonstrate and the types of critical thinking they will do as well. There are advanced and accelerated opportunities to learn at all levels. The districts aim to provide engaging opportunities to learn, and the school strives to provide those opportunities, while maintaining a rigorous, challenging, and supportive education.

We currently cover the following Countryside-area school districts: La Grange School District 105 and Lyons Township High School District 204.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Countryside District Curriculum

The districts believe in students and faculty treating each other with dignity and respect. This means making healthy choices regarding the self and others. The school also believes that students and staff should maintain an orderly environment while showing respect to the facilities. The approach to problem-solving should creative, involving stopping, then thinking, and then discussing actions. Students learn to fit their language and actions to their audience and environment.

Independence in learning is encouraged and students are provided more options as they move into high school. Students who wish to do independent studies are welcome to work with a faculty member and may find that a topic of interest cross disciplines and allows them to do advanced study in more than one subject. Above all, students and faculty are held responsible and accountable for their actions. By demonstrating positive ways of interacting, faculty teach students how to be healthier, happier citizens.

Chalk Talk: Private Universities

The primary difference between a private and a public university is how they’re funded. Public universities are funded by the state, whereas private universities are primarily funded by tuition. Because of this, the tuition of most private universities is quite high, though there are a handful of very reasonably priced private universities. Because they’re tuition based, private universities tend to focus more on the students’ experience. More attention is paid to the menu, the housing, and the overall experience, since students are paying more, after all. Support services are often very strong at private universities, as well, and since they tend to be smaller schools, students often have a more personal relationship with their professors.
