Deming District and Curriculum
The Deming Public School District is dedicated to providing an excellent quality educational experience for the students within the district. The curriculum is based on offering students the skills and instruction they need so they can become productive citizens. The district welcomes assistance from the community in preparing students to be able to be successful in the global society. To that end the district partners with both local businesses and area colleges and universities to provide students with opportunities for academic growth.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Deming District Curriculum
To assist students in meeting their academic goals the district requires students to complete a four year plan in eighth grade laying out the classes they will need to graduate. In addition, students complete a Career Pathways Map so that students take the correct coursework to be prepared for either college or a job. These planning tools go hand in hand with the implementation of the state mandated Common Core Curriculum Standards which are based in providing students across the state with the skills they need in the areas of English and Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics to be academically successful.
In English and Language Arts, the focus is on learning to read, write, speak and listen. These standards of literacy are extended to all academic courses. In Mathematics students learn to be mathematically fluent in computation, algebra, geometry, measurement, statistics and probability. The level of complexity in both ELA and Mathematics is progressive and builds on the skills learned in the previous year.

Keeping Informed: Recent Deming Educational News
- International Accreditation - AdvancEd, recently gave full international accreditation to the Deming Public School System. AdvancEd is an organization dedicated to improving schools around the world through an accreditation protocol. The Deming district participated in a two year audit process which included meeting the seven world class education standards required by AdvanEd to meet international accreditation.
- Walk of Life - Students at Columbus Elementary recently participated in the 'Walk of Life' annual fundraiser to raise funds for the Cancer Support Group of Deming and Luna County. All of the students in the Columbus Elementary School walked around the school’s soccer field at least four times with donations coming from area businesses and the community.
- Parent Activities - The Deming Public School District has provided a list of activities for families to enjoy at home in honor of National Kids Day. Recommended endeavors include putting on a history play, creating numbers and letters in play dough, planning a picnic, enjoy a water park, taking a nature hike, making and flying a kite, visiting a petting zoo and visiting the library.

The site also has a guide to the new Common Core Curriculum standards that many states are implementing.
