Dickinson District and Curriculum

The Dickinson Public School System has core beliefs and values that guide the district’s curriculum. The District recognizes that students are unique individuals with the capacity to learn through a variety of methods. Students are expected to meet their educational demands through responsible and respectable communication with both faculty and family. The Dickinson School District has developed a challenging and innovative curriculum to prepare all students for a changing world. This curriculum is based on consensus maps which establish the core content for each subject level.

We currently cover the following Dickinson-area school districts: Dickinson Public Schools.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Dickinson District Curriculum

Student proficiency in the Science curriculum is based on an ‘I Can’ approach where students are ranked based on a series of
science-based grade-specific tasks they complete. The underlying principles of these tasks are focused in promoting knowledge
in the life, physical, and earth sciences. Students at all grade levels are expected to demonstrate abilities in conducting
scientific inquiries, identifying unifying concepts, explaining basic principles, and identifying scientific achievements.

An important part of the mission directive of the Dickinson School District is to cultivate students to develop their social and
personal potential. The Social Studies curriculum fosters this ideal by preparing “students to be informed members of society who
make decisions based on their knowledge of the world.” This curriculum places a strong emphasis on students’ understanding of both
current and historical events. Students are expected to recognize and utilize creditable informational sources and become comfortable
with the process of ‘reteaching’ as a mechanism for learning.
