Draper District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs

The Canyons School District follows the Utah Core Standards for education, which are derived from the Common Core State Standards, developed by expert educators and followed in over forty states nationwide. The Common Core is an evidence-based educational program whose goal is to make sure that students are ready for careers and colleges upon high school graduation. The Utah Core Standards are designed to make sure that students are capable of seeing the connection between the elements of an area of study.

We currently cover the following Draper-area school district: Canyons School District.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Draper District Curriculum

In Math, the basis for the advanced study of algebra, geometry, and statistics is begun in elementary school, where students learn these fields through experience of using manipulatives (physical objects to help them understand math problems), bar charts, and pictures. Students are asked to deal with specific problems that can be applied directly, rather than using abstract principles.

Students at all high schools in the Canyons School District have three options for their high school diploma, all of which meet the Utah Core Requirements. They can earn a regular diploma, which meets state standards and prepares them for a career, an advanced diploma, which includes two years of study of a foreign language and is designed for students who intend to attend college, or an honors diploma, which adds required minimum ACT scores to the advanced diploma (with all students having their ACT testing paid for by the district).

Chalk Talk: Scholarship Opportunities

A college degree is more important now than ever for success in the workplace. At the same time, college is getting more and more expensive. However, there are lots of scholarship opportunities available for students who look for them. Many are tied to academic achievement, particularly scores on the SAT, ACT, or other tests. Others are linked to community service, citizenship, and extracurricular achievements such as athletics or the arts. What’s important in looking for a scholarship is to pinpoint what makes you special, and to look for scholarships that want to fund students like you. Spending time researching scholarships will pay off, in reduced loan debt for the future!
