Chalk Talk: How to Get the Most out of Extracurricular Activities

There are many clubs and activities available to students, from sports to academic clubs, to competitive clubs to volunteer groups. So how do you maximize the benefit from these activities? Pick clubs that you will enjoy. Don’t just join clubs so that you can add them to your resume. Choose to be involved in clubs that will help you grow in ways that will prepare you for your after high school plans. Once you have chosen the clubs and activities that you are most interested in, get involved. Show up to the meetings. Involve yourself in their outings and activities. Invest your time and talent in those areas. If the opportunity arises, try to get some type of leadership position within the club or sport. This will be more responsibility, but also come with many benefits. Keep these things in mind when deciding which clubs or activities to be involved in.
