Chalk Talk: Benefits of Game-Based Learning

While playing games to learn in school has been a staple of classrooms for decades, today’s technology makes for an even better experience for game-based learning. Playing games allows children to remain engaged in learning, even if the subject isn’t their favorite. Combining game play with technology only increases the level of engagement for students. Game-based learning also supports higher-ordered skills such as problem solving. By gathering data, exploring options, and testing their own solutions, students are able to think critically and analyze information to come to a logical conclusion. Lastly, games are fun! By incorporating game play and technology into the classroom, children will learn almost without realizing it. And because they are so highly engaged, children will retain far more information.
