Chalk Talk: Benefits of Vocational Education

Students that pursue a vocational education after high school graduation derive many benefits from doing so. In addition to participating in a program that usually only lasts two years, these programs often cost less than a four-year college degree. Additionally, by learning a trade over the course of their studies, vocational education students are immediately employable upon their graduation. Oftentimes, students learning a trade in school are given opportunities for apprenticeships and internships, giving them valuable on-the-job training before they graduate. Many companies in high-demand sectors like healthcare and technology hire vocational education students before they complete their program of study, particularly if the student demonstrates exceptional achievement in the classroom and drive to improve him or herself. The goal-setting skills and commitment required to complete technical courses is an additional draw for employers who seek workers that have the required technical skills and the ability to work independently.
