Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Eatontown District Curriculum

In order to prepare students to be socially, politically and economically successful citizens, the Eatontown Public Schools and the Monmouth Regional High School District have developed a comprehensive K-12 curriculum that engages students in practical learning. Classroom exercises extend their applicability to the real world, so students understand the link between what they learn in school and real life situations.

To prepare students for life and work in our increasingly global society, students in both districts are required to demonstrate proficiency in a foreign language. Students in kindergarten through the eighth grade study Spanish, while high school students have additional languages available, including French and Latin. Study of foreign language includes development of speaking, listening, reading and writing skills in that language. From elementary school, where students learn basic words and phrases, to high school, where students acquire the skills to engage in complex conversations, an emphasis is placed not just on language development, but also on practical application of those skills in everyday life.

Chalk Talk: Attending Community College to Save Money

High school students who are close to graduating should consider attending a local community college to begin their post-secondary education. Community colleges offer a number of benefits, with affordability being at the top of the list. With tuition at community colleges highly affordable, students can complete their general education requirements at a fraction of the cost of attending a four-year school. This means students can take more classes for less money, or invest the money they save into paying for the remainder of their education at a four-year school. Either way, students gain valuable college experience while paying far less for the classes they take.
