The public schools attended by students living in El Dorado at Santa Fe, New Mexico are overseen by the Santa Fe Public School District (SFPS). The goal of the Santa Fe Public School District is to prepare students to become productive and successful adults and productive citizens. To reach that goal the district provides students with a challenging and high quality educational environment that provides students with the skills they need to succeed in the workforce and in higher education.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the El Dorado at Santa Fe District Curriculum

The SFPS district is implementing the state mandated and approved curriculum called Common Core. Common Core provides a cohesive set of educational standards particularly in the area of English and Language Arts and Mathematics. In English and Language Arts, students focus on becoming literate in reading, writing, and speaking English. The Common Core curriculum is geared to preparing students to be able to be successful in college and in the workforce.

Students read both informational text and literature so that they are prepared for the type of reading material they could encounter on the job. An emphasis is placed on the development of critical analysis skills, listening and reading for information. In Mathematics, students learn core math skills such as computation, algebra, geometry, statistics, and measurement. Students learn to apply problem-solving and reasoning skills to real life situations and to build on their skills year by year.

Keeping Informed: Recent El Dorado at Santa Fe Educational News

  • District Applies for Race to the Top Grant - The Santa Fe Public School District applied for grant funding under the Race to the Top (RTTT) program. The district is requesting a ten million dollar grant to be spread over four years. The grant would be used to implement personalized education plans for students and to improve student guidance and educational support particularly in the district’s Transformation Zone schools.
  • MusicFest - The SFPS district recently held a music fund raising event, the Fourth Annual MusicFest which benefits the music education programs. The Partners in Education Foundation, the Santa Fe Youth Symphony and the Santa Fe Magazine were co sponsors of the music festival in addition to local businesses. The festival included performances by the Symphony Brass, the Capital High School Mixed Choir, and a faculty Cabaret.
  • Safe Schools Healthy Students - The Santa Fe Public School District recently released the final report on the Safe Schools/Healthy Students program. The Safe Schools/ Healthy Students is a federal initiative that works to set policies and put in place programs that helps promote an educational environment that is both safe and effective. The SFPS district was the recipient of a four year grant from the Safe Schools/Healthy Students in 2008 that the district used to implement a community wide program to create a safe and healthy school environment that was drug free and that promotes healthy social skills.

Chalk Talk: Learn What Makes Each State Unique

The government website for kids at kids.usa.gov provides a link to each state website’s dedicated to kids so that children and their parents can learn about the history of their state and current events happening where they live. For instance, if you go to the link for the state of Maine you will find a variety of links to information about Maine including a section called All About Maine which provides a detailed history of the state, a list of famous people, a history timeline, maps, places to visit, and information on the state symbols and song, wildlife and important products. You can also see a “Tree of Facts” listing in tree formation all kinds of information such as the numbers of cities and towns, lakes and coastline and other demographic listings.
