The Englewood math curriculum begins in kindergarten where children learn about whole numbers. Students learn to represent, relate, and work with numbers. Learners also develop an understanding of basic shapes. In later elementary grades, children learn basic operations such as addition and subtraction. Multiplication and division comes later, as does an understanding of standard units of measurement. Students learn base ten procedures, and also develop an understanding of fractions.

The physical education curriculum in Englewood includes developing both fine and gross motor skills. These skills are acquired through various means, including participation in individual and team athletic activities. Students develop balance, muscle control, and hand-eye coordination through activities such as dribbling a ball, walking a balance beam, and flexibility and strength training. Chalk Talk: Parent Involvement Improves Student Success

Studies show that although there are a myriad of factors that lend to student success, parental involvement is among the most important. Students whose parents take an interest in their education achieve more in school, including higher test scores and better grades in class. Attendance is also improved, while behavioral issues are reduced. By fostering a positive attitude towards education, parents help their children develop better self-confidence, which promotes increased self-esteem. There are benefits for parents as well. Improved communication between parents and students lends to the development of stronger bonds. Parents gain a better understanding of the curriculum and expectations of the school and teachers as well. By being actively involved in your child’s education, you will better your child’s life and yours as well.
