Fort Collins District and Curriculum

The Poudre School District (PSD) is responsible for educating students in Fort Collins and its surrounding community. The PSD envisions a community that supports rigorous daily learning for every child inspiring them to think critically and care for the environment around them. The school district aims to prepare all students for success in a changing world through a high graduation rate. Student literacy and successful transitioning between grades have become a major focus for the district to achieve its vision.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Fort Collins District Curriculum

The Science curriculum for grades K-5 is focused on teaching students the key concepts of life, earth, and physical science through initiating student curiosity and inquiry. The curriculum for grades 6-12 is then built upon a flexible model containing a diverse series of classes to enable students to become educated in subjects that both excite and inspire them.

Students are provided instruction in core knowledge areas while accelerated pathways in AP and International Baccalaureate (IB) are also offered. Students can chose from advanced subjects such as geospace science, botany, and anatomy. Education in these subjects is balanced with fundamental classes in general chemistry, physical and life sciences to provide the foundation for problem solving and crucial scientific investigatory and processing skills.

Keeping Informed: Recent Fort Collins Educational News

  • Fort Collins Elementary Students Participate in Media Technology Program - Fort Collins's Bethke Elementary has provided students with hands-on technological experience through establishment of KBOB Studios. The studio recently celebrated its 500th podcast by featuring daily student produced shows on topics such as weather, music, and education.
  • Lincoln Middle School Students Participate in Open Door Project - Sixth- and seventh- grade students are learning valuable leadership skills by participating in Lincoln's equine care project. Students are taught to care for horses by grooming and exercising them weekly as a means to reinforce their confidence, social and interpersonal development.
  • Fort Collins HS students Garden for Success - Eighty Fort Collins's students are involved in maintaining a student-run garden that provides opportunities in management, retail, and food preparation. Students become familiar with a diverse and valuable skill set such as nutrition and food safety, teamwork, and business management.
