Fort Frances District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs

Students in Fort Frances are taught under the direction laid out in the Ontario Curriculum. The curriculum covers the entire scope of subjects and programs in the schools and has established clear standards for learning throughout. The standards set forth in the curriculum are the basis for lesson planning by teachers and are used to create assessments that demonstrate proficiency within a subject. This approach ensures that all students receive a high quality education and has measures to show where students need more instruction and where their natural strengths exist.

We currently cover the following Fort Frances-area school districts: Rainy River District School Board and The Northwest Catholic District School Board.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Fort Frances District Curriculum

Students are required to take core academic courses in Math, Science, English, History and Social Studies, and World Languages. Each course is taught as its own subject, although there are many opportunities to integrate subjects so that students begin to understand how they are all connected. The English curriculum has been designed to teach reading and writing skills which students will use in other subjects with its focus on non-fiction analysis and informational writing strands.

In Math and Science, students learn fundamentals of problem-solving and inquiry. Students recognize theories and learn how to test them with precision and accuracy. They are taught to manipulate shapes and to conduct operations and functions with numbers, geometric shapes, and algebraic operants. This helps students develop a basis in mathematic and scientific reasoning that is used in many aspects of real life. In addition, the subject of technology has developed and math and science learning contribute to the understanding of how technology is developed and used in countless areas of life.

Chalk Talk: The Pros and Cons of Advanced Placement Classes

Many institutions desire students with as many Advanced Placement courses as possible, and they want them to receive 4s and 5s on all exams. Other schools would rather have your expend your energies in courses relevant to a declared major and minor. For some, a Grade Point Average is their only concern. From here, it is important to evaluate whether taking AP Japanese would benefit you if you do not plan to use the language for your future career. Also, decide whether taking a heavy course load of AP classes prevents you from working and saving money (if that’s what you really want) or from participating in extracurricular activities that you really enjoy. Each decision is individual, so it is wise to choose what is best for you.
