Fort Payne Schools has one high school, one middle school, and two elementary schools. Following the curriculum of the Alabama State
Standards, this school system has an open-enrollment system and has one of the top systems in the nation. All of the schools are fully

In the teaching of history, Fort Payne City Schools teaches all aspects of Geography, Economics, Citizenship, Government, and History.
Being a historically rich city, the students learn about the local history of Fort Payne, along with the region, and then the state
all the way to world history. There are many advanced history options available in the high school, such as Contemporary World Issues,
Psychology, Sociology, Civic Engagement, Human Geography and more. These electives encourage and enlighten students who are thinking
about pursuing a history major in college, as they are very concentrated and in-depth.

Keeping Informed: Recent Fort Payne Educational News

  • Local Restaurant to Donate - All school year long, a local restaurant, Stevi B's, will be having a fundraiser for Willis Valley School. One dollar per person that eats at the restaurant will be donated to the school, and it will be divided up by grade levels on each Thursday of the month. All of Thursday's dollar profits will go to that particular grade level.
  • Department of Agriculture Recognition - The Department of Agriculture commends Fort Payne Schools on Facilitating a Healthy School Environment for students and staff. A representative from this US Department came to Fort Payne Schools and presented awards to the school system. The rich topography of the state lends itself to many crops in the area, thus Alabama is the top schools in this agricultural initiative.
  • Win a Space Trip! - The State of Alabama Department of Education is offering the chance to enter an exciting contest to "Name the Lander" of Rocket City Pioneers. They are competing in a thirty million dollar Google contest to build a Lander that will actually travel to the moon. The Name the Lander contest is statewide, and if the Rocket City Lander wins, it will have the name chosen by the winner of the contest.
