Gaithersburg District and Curriculum
At the elementary school level, Gaithersburg Elementary School uses the MCPS Curriculum 2.0 which is built around the concept of fostering both creativity and critical thinking, in addition to teaching the fundamentals of academics. This new curriculum also provides more teaching time for courses such as the arts, research, physical education, social studies and science. The district is moving to adopt the state approved Common Core Standards for English/Language Arts and Mathematics.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Gaithersburg District Curriculum
The middle schools in MCPS including Gaithersburg Middle School use a curriculum based on a variety of methodology including Education of English Language Learners, School Academic Grouping Practices, and Gifted and Talented Education. The curriculum includes all the fundamentals including Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Languages, and Arts Education.
Gaithersburg High School is what is referred to as Signature School which is known as the Academy School of Arts & Communication, Business Studies, Leadership & Education, and Science & Technology. The academic focus is on these particular ‘signature strands’ with a concentration on providing next generation career skills. In their senior year, students are required to complete a capstone project including
an internship, college coursework or a significant research project.

- GHS Latin Dance Club - The Gaithersburg High School Latin Dance Club recently performed on NBC's Washington DC television station performing the dances they will use to compete in a Latin dance competition at the Strathmore.
- The Superintendent Goes Back to School - The Superintendent of Montgomery County Public Schools, Joshua Starr recently visited Gaithersburg High School where he spent the day shadowing a senior high school student as he went through his academic day. While at the school the Superintendent sat through classes and visited with the Trojans football team.
- Baldridge Award - The Montgomery County Schools has received a highly prestigious award, the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. Only six school systems in the country have achieved this honored which reflects the performance excellence emerging from the schools.
