Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Garfield Heights District Curriculum

The math curriculum forms an important part of learning and problem solving. Many resources are offered for students to practice improving their math skills in the summer. First graders are expected to identify and draw geometrical shapes and become familiarized with working with operations of numbers, money and time. As students progress into middle school, identifying patterns between graphs and geometrical shapes is important for skill development and independent problem solving.

Students are expected to writer longer essays using research and be able to present their ideas in a clear and concise manner. The Science curriculum focuses on in-depth lab studies with science experiments using nature and the environment.

A $150,000 Community Development Block Grant is helping to improve Crudele, Forestdale and Debelak parks and the children’s area at the Dan Kostel Recreation Center. New playground equipment at Forestdale Park is bring a new meaning to playtime for children.
