Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Glenwood Springs District Curriculum
The district’s curriculum is research-based and its development is driven by student performance data. Standards and benchmarks are vertically aligned to ensure that as children move from grade to grade, they acquire knowledge and skills that build upon what they learned in earlier grades and coursework. In addition to providing guidelines for teaching and learning in core and elective areas, the district’s curriculum also includes many special learning opportunities.
Expanded curricula include Enrichment Wednesdays. After an early release, students are allowed to participate in extended learning courses offered by local volunteers that include lessons in art, history, music, and a host of other exciting subjects. The district also offers special learning opportunities for advanced students as part of their Gifted and Talented Program. Accelerated course options are available for students who require an increased academic challenge.
