Greece District and Curriculum

The Greece Central School District provides students with a comprehensive educational program that reflects the New York State Common Core Standards. The district’s goal is to promote student achievement through differentiated instruction tailored to meet the individual needs of students and prepare them for success in college and career. These standards define the knowledge and skills students should have in English Language Arts and Math from kindergarten through 12th grade.

We currently cover the following Greece-area school district: Greece Central School District.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Greece District Curriculum

Curriculum development and teaching methods are left up to the individual school district. Computer Labs and mobile technology support student learning across the curriculum. Teachers can address student’s needs in a small group setting and help build independent, skilled readers, communicators, and problem-solvers. The district also provides opportunities for students who want to accelerate their learning or take Advanced Placement courses.

The English Language Arts curriculum is integrated and recognizes the strong connection between reading, writing, listening and speaking. Basic skills and strategies are taught to help students become proficient in this core academic area. The reading program includes small and large group instruction and opportunities for guided and independent reading using a wide variety of fiction and non-fiction texts.

Chalk Talk: Promoting Literacy at Home

To help promote reading in children, reading materials should be easily accessible and readily available throughout the house to all family members. You and your child can have a great time creating a special reading “nook” together. Make sure the area is quiet, has good lighting and may be decorated with your child’s art work or their favorite book covers. Encourage your child to write their own books and poems to keep in this area. Others ways to inspire and motivate your child to read include designating a special time each day that your child can read – either alone, with a buddy, sibling, parent, friend or relative. They can even read to their family pet! Make sure to limit the time your child spends in front of a computer screen, TV, tablet, smart phone or video game. Create a reading routine with your child and other family members and enjoy sharing quiet family time together.
