Chalk Talk: Scheduling Classes For The First Semester of College

There’s no doubt you’re excited about starting college and entering a new stage of life but how can you make the transition easier on yourself? One way is to be particular about which classes you take in your first semester. Although many universities schedule classes for students’ first year, some do allow students to make their own schedule or give some kind of input into what and when their classes should be. In this case, one of the most important aspects of making a schedule is time. Specifically, how early am I willing to wake up or how late will I stay for a class? For example, 8 AM classes may sound like a good idea but many students in their first semester, it can be difficult to remain focused or even show up consistently. Second, try to take your core classes as soon as possible. Even if you know what you want your major to be, many advanced courses will require you to have taken core courses before you sign up for anything else.
