Hayesville District and Curriculum

The curriculum at Salem-Keizer Public School District is based on the Common Core Curriculum. This allows the school to create materials that will allow the students to be prepared for the ever-changing global community while obtaining an excellent education. Students must demonstrate an understanding of the objectives, analyze information and apply knowledge to make connections between key elements while completing the objectives. Interest-based electives, career programs, extracurricular activities and athletics supplement classroom learning and provide yet another outlet for students to learn, explore, and grow.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Hayesville District Curriculum

One part of the curriculum at Salem-Keizer Public School District is history. The students are provided with a variety of resources to make history come to life. Using literature, newspapers, films and primary sources, the students become aware of the people and events that make up this subject. They also take the information from these sources to complete research projects from a variety of points of view. When they enter their career of choice, these students will be aware of the difference one person, or event, can make in history.

The science curriculum includes the study of the Earth. The students begin by looking at rocks or soil and creating descriptive words for them. Soon they discover how each of these rocks are formed, as well as the soil that surrounds them. In addition, they study and compare Oregon and other areas’ surfaces, along with earthquakes and volcanoes. At a more advanced level, the study of plate tectonics is undertaken. This allows the students to discover the properties that help to create the world around them and the environmental forces that we live with.

Chalk Talk: Test Prep on a Budget

Every student should have the opportunity to prepare for test on the same level. However, there are companies that offer preparation for the ACT and SAT at a high cost. There are some things that are available for every students. First, students can buy preparation books at bookstores for about $30.00. There is very little difference in different editions, so by buying one in the spring a person can buy one even less expensively. Most of these books have several practice tests in them. So once a book is purchased, parents should set up a quiet area for the child to practice. They administer the test as if they were taking the actual test. Once the test is graded, parents will have an idea on what areas the child needs help with and then they can seek assistance in that area.
