In Mathematics, students learn basic concepts early on to ensure a solid foundation which allows them to pursue more advances concepts at the junior and senior level. In science, the goal is to prepare some students for further study in science and engineering and to educate them for a world that demands increasing familiarity with science and technology. In all of these curricula, practical and real-world applications of material is emphasized.

Chalk Talk: ED Applications: The Facts

Early Decision applications (ED) are binding, early applications. Usual deadlines might be November 1st, though some go even earlier. Colleges tend to respond fairly quickly, as well, and students usually have a decision from a college before the end of the calendar year. The student, a parent, and a college counselor all sign a contract pledging that the student agrees to attend this college if accepted. This can be beneficial to students because colleges often give special consideration to students who apply early and are willing to commit to the college. Acceptance rates can sometimes double for ED applicants. On the flipside, ED only gives a “nudge” to students; it doesn’t work miracles, and students should never apply ED if they’re unsure they want to attend this college. Even if the student is offered a much better financial package from a different school, the contract is still binding.
