Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Huntersville District Curriculum

The Math curriculum focuses on core concepts and progressive development beginning in the early grades. This foundation enables teachers to be thorough in the teaching of core concepts and procedures in the areas of basic operations, geometry and measurement, patterns and algebra, and data and statistical analysis. Students are also expected to be able to communicate their understanding of the principles they learn and be able to communicate their thinking when solving a problem.

The Language Arts curriculum focuses on all areas of communication, with a major focus on reading and writing. Research and the ability to evaluate information is a standard at the higher levels. Grammar, mechanics, and conventions of standard written English is another major strand within the curriculum during all years. The goal is for students to read a variety of texts, both literary and non-fiction, and to also develop a range of writing abilities in different forms and for varying purposes.
