Chalk Talk: Tips for the SAT

Students should bear in mind a number of tips that will help them improve their performance on the SAT. First, taking online practice tests will help students become familiar with the way in which tests are structured. It additionally gives them insight into how instructions and questions are worded. Second, when taking the test, it is a good rule of thumb to answer the easier questions first, leaving the more difficult questions for the end of the testing period. This ensures the maximum number of questions are answered, while also helping students build some confidence by quickly and accurately answering the majority of the test’s questions. Lastly, when scheduling a subject test for the SAT, students should ensure the test date is as close to possible to the completion of the subject. For example, students taking a foreign language test should do so only after the completion of several years of study in that language. Doing so gives them the best possible chance to master the material and show that mastery on the SAT subject test.
