to formulate and create connections to the real world. In Language Arts, Project-Based Learning is a great way for the students to
read non-fiction by researching the topic at hand, and to explore beyond the actual text they are reading.

Keeping Informed: Recent Jasper Educational News
- Intel Lesson - Learning about the First Thanksgiving has never been more interesting. A Memorial Park Elementary teacher used a fabulous Intel tool to piece together and perform a study on the events in our history surrounding the First Thanksgiving. Utilizing the Intel visual ranking device, the students then held a discussion on the events and ranked them in order of difficulty. The events focused on the pilgrims and the challenges they faced.
- West Jasper Awarded Grant - The Laura Bush Foundation granted W. Jasper Elementary with a sum of $5,000. The money will be well spent on books of various genres for this media center. Only four schools were lucky enough to receive the grant, and W. Jasper School is very thankful for this foundation.
- FOCUS News - Walker High has been commended for being a featured school by this organization, as this high school established peer groups and training to teach about staying safe. FOCUS aids in assisting others with delivering important knowledge about risky behaviors in adolescent-aged children. Mentoring, mediation, counseling, and general sessions on violence prevention were facilitated by the school. Walker High has been recognized as promoting awareness for healthy and safe behaviors.
