Jenks District and Curriculum

The Jenks Public Schools has a mission for every child to be successful in their future. The learning that takes place follow the curriculum standards set forth by the Oklahoma State Department of Education. Educators impart key objectives from the state’s core curriculum of Mathematics and English Language Arts to the students as well as other important subject areas, like History and Science.

We currently cover the following Jenks-area school district: Jenks Public Schools.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Jenks District Curriculum

In English Language Arts, students learn how to comprehend stories and use summarizing and generalizing skills. They retell stories from beginning to end by summarizing the important parts of the plot, both orally and in written form. Also, the teachers give the students opportunities to act out narrative text by focusing and identifying the different elements of the stories. Discussion of the main characters, the problems and solutions, cause and effect, and the main idea of the stories is also essential.

In Math, students interpret and analyze data in graphs and display their own information in a variety of formats, such as bar or pie graphs, line graphs, and tables. When looking at a graph or chart, students develop understanding by interpreting a variety of information about the format in which the data is displayed. The students begin doing this in the primary grades and the difficulty is increased over the years.

Chalk Talk: What Are Literacy Centers?

In many primary classrooms, teachers have literacy centers within the classroom. These are areas in the classroom with various activities per center, such the writing center, silent reading area, phonics games area, pocket chart, art center, drama center, and many more. Each center has quiet activities for the children to do while the teacher is usually doing small-group reading instruction, or guided reading. For example, the writing center may have letter stamps to stamp out words, colorful stationary to write on, different pens and markers to write with.
