Chalk Talk: How to Improve Your Child’s Writing Skills

Did you know that improving your child’s writing skills can improve their thinking skills? To be able to write, you must have an idea to start with. To become a good writer, you must have creative and interesting ideas, and you must know how to present your ideas. Teaching your child how to write well doesn’t have to be based around required book reports, and other activities that some children dislike. Most children want to write about themselves and about topics that matter to them. Writing about travel and vacations is usually a fun way for your children to express their interests and predictions before you go on vacation. They can find out more about the area you will be visiting, while taking notes that they can quiz the family about on the way to the destination. They can write down interesting facts about the vacation, while artists in the family can illustrate these “fact cards.” The whole family can get involved in the activity, brainstorming ideas about what they observe on vacation.
