Chalk Talk: Taking a Break

We usually hear the phrase time out in elementary schools which offers students a break from their behavior and time to reassess their actions and how they affect the other students. Some students are behaviorally challenged and need a "time out." However, high school teachers and college teachers may need to use this strategy for students as well to allow them to take a break from the hectic pace of academic life and rigorous examinations. Time out is not only for elementary school students or those behaviorally challenged. Time out can be used in different contexts to help students to get a grip on their behavior, cool their frustrated emotions, and center themselves back in time to progress with their studies. Sometimes teachers will use a stretching break where students do light exercises to refocus themselves or gain alertness.
