History students evaluate significant events in history, such as the industrial revolution, in terms of how its influence is still felt in today’s world. Numerous issues related to the environment are studied as well. Students learn about sustainability and what nations are doing to reduce their negative impact on the world. Programs to reduce reliance of fossil fuels and explore renewable energy sources are discussed as well. Economic issues, including those related to advancing the economies of struggling nations, are also investigated.
Students learn about environmental conservation when they attend classes in Environmental Science, but they may not be sure how to use this information after graduation. One of the fields that may be of interest is in energy efficiency and water conservation. This is used by people in their own homes as they learn how to maintain and upgrade their homes. By taking the information that is taught in classes and educating homeowners these young adults can help to reduce the carbon footprint of others. Students can also help governments develop methods to reduce greenhouse gas and increase sustainability programs.

- High School Takes to Digital Learning - Students at Lake Mills High School benefit from digital learning tools at the disposal of their teachers. The choir teacher, Mrs. Heimstreet, recently demonstrated the use of technology in her classroom by using a SMARTBoard along with SMARTMusic software.
- Girls and Boys State Events - A number of students from Lake Mills High School recently represented the school by participating in Girls State and Boys State events. The American Legion and the Lions Club both sponsor the program. Parents and community members who are interested in helping out with these opportunities are also welcome.
- Parent-Teacher Organization Supports Elementary Learners - The Parent-Teacher Organization at Lake Mills Elementary School puts on numerous events throughout the school year that support student learning. The PTO also organizes fundraisers in order to pay for supplementary programs at the school.

Chalk Talk: Goals of the Health Curriculum
The health curriculum was designed to help elementary school students develop the interpersonal communication skills necessary to enhance their health. Students learn effective ways to communicate their feelings, needs, and wants. Learners also develop the ability to ask for help when they need it. The manner in which communication can help prevent health risks is explored as well. Students identify trusted adults that can help them when a need or problem comes up, and also learn what to do in case an unhealthy situation arises. Children also gain conflict resolution skills as part of their participation in the health curriculum.
