Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Lamar District Curriculum
Understanding of a second language is an important goal that the Lamar School District has for each student. French, Spanish, and German are offered and provide students an opportunity to expand their understanding of other cultures, while improving their ability to communicate with others. Communicating in written and verbal forms is emphasized in three primary areas: interpersonal, interpretive, and presentation. Students learn how to understand short and complex exchanges, as well as common social courtesies and gestures.
To prepare students for life after their secondary education is complete, the Lamar School District offers a careers-based curriculum. Students acquire an understanding of their personal traits, interests, and aptitudes that will help them identify a well-suited career path. Job search skills, interview skills, and resume writing are undertaken as well. Goal setting is an important aspect of the curriculum as it pertains to educational and career pursuits.

Keeping Informed: Recent Lamar Educational News
- Backpacks for Needy Children - The Colorado Department of Education is undertaking an effort to assist homeless children achieve their educational goals. Children will be provided with a free backpack that includes school supplies, snacks, and books.
- Attendance Awareness Month - Schools throughout Colorado celebrated Attendance Awareness Month in September. The purpose of the awareness campaign is to reverse the recent trend of increasing absences in Colorado schools.
- Enrollment Growing Statewide - For the 24th year in a row, enrollment at Colorado’s K-12 schools has increased. There are now over 875,000 public school students in the state, up over 13,000 students from the 2013-2014 school year.

Also, when a person begins thinking about college and career goals, the important skills of speaking a second language may come in very handy. Lastly, language acquisition gives people insight into the cultures and traditions of people dissimilar from themselves. This increases appreciation and respect for the way that people live their lives in other parts of the world.
