Laughlin District and Curriculum
The Clark County School District strives to provide its students with the best possible education. The Nevada State Department of Education mandates the use of technology that is integrated into all of the subject areas. This enables staff and teachers to develop curriculum that will build bridges to all subject areas. The goal is to increase learning potential, allowing students to be actively engaged in learning that leads to academic success. Schools use a core curriculum of Language Arts and Mathematics.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Laughlin District Curriculum
In Mathematics, Saxon math texts are used, beginning in Kindergarten with teaching students to use written numbers to represent quantities, solving problems by counting objects in a set and counting out a given number of objects. Students also learn to add and subtract by using objects and they use geometry by identifying shapes. The concepts of Algebra are introduced by learning to add and subtract using objects. Instruction in each grade builds upon concepts learned in the prior grade.
In English/Language Arts and Literacy, students begin in Kindergarten by learning to recognize key ideas and details of stories. They learn to ask and answer questions and learn to connect a picture with its story. Students engage in group reading activities. As students enter each new grade level, concepts are taught that build upon knowledge acquired in the previous grade. Technology is integrated into the course to enhance learning and build real world skills.

- Nevada State Railroad Museum - Located in nearby Boulder City, the Nevada State Railroad Museum. The museum offers train rides and has special educational options for schools. This is a great day trip for a family or full-class field trip.
- Hoover Dam - The Hoover Dam can be a great place for a class field trip. Tours run from 9:30 am until 3:55 pm. There are tours of the power plant and the dam. There is also a visitor’s center, but arrangements need to be made in advance for a tour of that facility.
- Boulder City/Hoover Dam Museum - At the Boulder City/Hoover Dam Museum, students can tour the museum, learning about the building of Hoover Dam. The museum as interesting and educational exhibits and they offer educational programs. The educational data students learn here can definitely be integrated into your core classes.
