Ledyard District and Curriculum

Ledyard Public Schools operates six schools including four elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. Working to prepare students for the diverse and global community, Ledyard Public Schools utilizes the Connecticut Common Core State Standards in Reading and Mathematics and the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium for student assessment. In addition, Ledyard considers curriculum a living document in which revisions and reviews will be made as needed and linked to teacher evaluations and professional development.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Ledyard District Curriculum

Beginning in primary and intermediate school, students explore a variety of academic content areas such as mathematics, reading, language arts, science, and social studies. In addition, students are exposed to physical education, library/media, art, health, and music to enhance their educational experience. Those subject areas along with world languages, technology, and business education carry through middle and high school with advanced coursework being offered for those students who meet the requirements. A variety of elective coursework is also offered at the high school level including creative writing, acting, journalism, culinary arts, child development, and many more.

Ledyard also utilizes curriculum maps that include scope and sequence of content and skills, core materials, textbooks, and measurable student learning objectives. These help all members of the educational community understand the goals at each grade level and to see the continuity of learning that students will go through. It also helps to see areas where subjects can be integrated so that students see its relevancy.

Keeping Informed: Recent Ledyard Educational News

  • Budget Goals Laid Out for Ledyard School District - The Ledyard School District laid out the plans for the new budget for the 2014-2015 school year. Changes include shifts in the 6 period day and possible staff reductions. New equipment purchases are also on the agenda.
  • Ledyard Board of Education Appoints New Superintendent - The Ledyard Board of Education elected a new superintendent of schools in the hopes that this candidate will continue guiding the schools towards 21st century learning. Mrs. Cathy Patterson was voted as the new superintendent and brings 26 years of experience with her on the new job.
  • Ledyard High School Holds Annual Career Day - Career Day was held at Ledyard High School and was a success. Over 70 professionals came to speak to the students and students were assigned to hear three career choices. Useful information concerning a variety of jobs and careers were passed along to future jobseekers.
