Lindenhurst District and Curriculum
Residents of the Village of Lindenhurst will attend Lindenhurst Union Free School District (LUFSD). The district provides education from kindergarten through grade twelve, in addition to adult continuing education services. In line with the guidelines and principles of the New York State Education Department (NYSED), the LUFSD provides students with challenging core academic course work and opportunities to explore various post-secondary options. The district has designed its curriculum to meet the rigorous benchmarks set forth through the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), which focus on giving students fundamental literacy and mathematical skills.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Lindenhurst District Curriculum
The K-12 curriculum provides fundamental instruction in the following subject areas: English language arts, science, social studies, mathematics, art, music, and physical education. Each student has access to special education, academic intervention, and media/library resources. Character education and cultural awareness within the curriculum help students gain an appreciation for the unique ways in which other people lead their lives. Students also acquire a deeper understanding of the attitudes and perspectives that guide and direct the behavior of people from other cultures which adds to their ability to critically analyze and interpret information and ideas.
The secondary curriculum is set to prepare students for post-secondary education and work. Beyond increasingly rigorous core academic instruction, students will have the opportunity to take courses in business education, computer science, family and consumer science, foreign language, English as a second language, and practical arts (career training). In addition, students in the high school can take a variety of Advanced Placement (AP) courses to earn college credit and prepare for coursework that is more rigorous.

- Middle School Store Sells Valuable Lessons - Students in special education classes at Lindenhurst Middle School can participate in a new school store. The store was developed as a means to give these students extra training in math, language, and social skills.
- Students of All Ages Celebrate Living Clean and Healthy Lives - Red Ribbon Week is a national initiative to educate children about substance abuse and prevention, through character education. From Oct. 27-31, the Lindenhurst Union Free School District’s Red Ribbon Week events consisted of guest speakers and community events.
- New Academy Serves Students with Special Needs - The Lindenhurst Union Free School District has recently unveiled the Lindenhurst Academy—a program located in the administrative building that serves students with specific emotional and social needs. Currently, the academy serves 11 students but looks to serve at about 25 to 30 students in the future.
