Livingston District and Curriculum

Montana Office of Public Instruction has developed the core curriculum for Livingston Public Schools. Science, History and Foreign Languages are taught using a similarly structured objective-based curriculum that builds on prior knowledge to deepen student understanding.

We currently cover the following Livingston-area school district: Livingston Public Schools.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Livingston District Curriculum

In English Language Arts, the students develop ways to understand and apply word awareness at their grade level when decoding words. Word analysis cues will also be guided by the instructor to teach the students to become more confident readers. Exploring Latin and Greek root words and using the meanings of these affixes and roots help the students to comprehend text, develop accurate understanding, and is also an area that the students are expected to master.

In the Mathematics curriculum, objectives such as understanding algebraic patterning are taught to the students. The students are required to create a shape pattern or a number pattern and complete the pattern according to the “rule.” The students will also be able to generate their own patterns and create their own “rules.” While studying patterning, the students will also become familiar with odd and even numbers, and work with patterns using odd and even numerals.

Keeping Informed: Recent Livingston Educational News

  • Fleshman Creek Restoration Project - Many students and community members came together and restored the Fleshman Creek in Park County. The job required them to create riparian pastures where the livestock could graze, and they had to restore parts of the creek’s banks that had been so badly eroded in order to replant vegetation. The NRCS provided funding along with the Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks. In the original condition, it was wide, shallow, and full of sediment. This caused the water temperature to be high, and therefore it contained a limited number of fish. Due to the very limited amount of vegetation, healthy plants, and shrubs along the creek, the habitat was in danger. They restored this and have a goal of much improved water quality and a higher amount of living fish.
  • Farm to School Program - Livingston Public Schools has a goal to successfully develop their Farm-To-School project in order to provide fresh, home-grown, nutritional foods for the children of the school system. Childhood nutrition using local agriculture will have a positive impact for all involved!
  • Class of 1962 Reunion - The Class of 1962 of Park High School recently had a reunion. All had a wonderful time seeing each other once again, and reminiscing about the days when they were in high school. When touring the high school they were able to see all of the renovations and modernizations of the school they once attended. They also had a great time enjoying delicious food and discussing how it used to be in the 1960’s when they were in school, and all of the changes that have occurred over time. Congratulations to the Class of ’62!
