Long Beach Public Schools believe that the students of this school system deserve a top-notched education. Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Long Beach District Curriculum
Reading is an important part of the Language Arts program and begins with teaching listening skills so they can pick out important context. They also are provided with a variety of genre including non-fiction and drama. As the children progress, they are expected to present to other students a PowerPoint presentation of a fictional character. Eventually, these students are able to tackle literature such as “Brian’s Song,” “A Man Called Horse,” and “The Crucible.”
The Mathematics program starts with kindergarten students learning how to compare the size and shapes of items. As they go through school they take information such as this and learn how to graph and which kind of graph to use. In the third grade the children gain enough confidence that they are able to become a “Teacher of the Day” and teach their classmates how to multiply and divide. As they enter and graduate high school, the students have the knowledge and skills to understand advanced algebra, geometry, and even calculus.

Keeping Informed: Recent Long Beach Educational News
- Mock Trial Team - The Long Beach High School’s Mock Trial Team placed second in the state level of the Mississippi Mock Trial Championship. These students had to argue mock cases at the regional level before they advanced to the state level.
- District Festival - The Long Beach Middle School Choir received a superior rating at the District Festival, as did the Girl’s Choir. They also received a perfect score in sight reading. Each of these groups advanced to the state level of competition.
- Teachers of the Year - Teachers from each of the schools have been honored to be named Teacher of the Year. Each of these teachers have shown initiative in the classroom and are excellent examples of educators in the Long Beach School District.

This does not have to be in the classroom directly, but having the child see the parent take a part in the educational process shows them the importance of education.
